My parents are getting older and I’m not sure what information I would need in the event something happened to one or both.  Can you advise?

You are very wise to discover your parent’s wishes before something happens to them.  You will feel more certain that you are carrying out their desires.

There are a lot of moving parts to this discussion and our recommendation would to call Senior Solutions Home Care to discuss in detail.  But from a big picture view you should know their medical wishes and what individual(s) can see their wishes are carried out (i.e. DNR, POA, Living Will).  It is also good to have an idea of their financial situation so Senior Solutions Home Care recommends you know their source of income, bank account information, CD, investments, health and life insurance policies, long-term care policy to name just a few.  Other important documents you should have or know where to find is their marriage license, social security cards, death certificate of a previously deceased spouse, military discharge paperwork and titles and registration for things like cars and houses.  Additionally, you will want contact information for their doctors and clergy.  As mentioned earlier, this is a lengthy and potentially difficult discussion to have with your parents.  Call if you have questions or would like to discuss how to get the conversation going.  Please know that Senior Solutions Home Care is here to help.
