What is Home Care?

An Introduction

What is home care? Home care is one of the most exciting models of care because it allows an individual to stay in the  community they have spent a lifetime building. We advocate for this kind of care because of the independence and quality it provides our clients, but recently, we’ve been thinking: does everyone actually know what home care is? We hope to shed some light on this unique type of personal care, who it supports, and how it differs from other kinds of care. Whether you know someone who needs care or are simply curious about this growing industry, we hope you will see why we strive to provide excellent care within our clients’ four walls!

So…what exactly is it?

We define home care as an in-home service in which seniors and persons with disabilities can continue to enjoy their independent passions, hobbies, and other activities of daily living, but through the help of trained caregivers and our care management team.

Home care goes by many other names, including non-medical care and companionship services. In other words,it is different from services like home health, hospice, and private duty nursing because you do not receive care from a nurse or other medical professional. Instead, you receive care from trained caregivers who help you with activities of daily living, such as bathing and early morning routines, medication reminders, cooking assistance, and general companionship services. Home care cannot always assist with deeper health issues that require the assistance of nurses and doctors, but it works for many families who want customizable and more affordable care plans.

At Senior Solutions Home Care, we work to provide you with the best care and caregivers who believe in our core values, putting them into practice every single day. Staying at home is important to people as they age, and with the help of our services, many people maintain their independent lifestyles longer than they could without extra assistance!

Who can benefit from this kind of care?

While home care is often thought of as a senior care service, it can benefit many other people, including:

  • People with chronic health conditions like congestive heart failure, COPD, dementia, and diabetes.
  • People in recovery from things like stroke, a fall in the home, or an illness or injury that limits their ability to do the things they love.
  • Persons with disabilities, whether physical or mental, who need extra assistance maneuvering around their home or community.
  • The families of our clients who need a break from providing care for their loved one, who cannot care for their loved one because of distance or their busy schedule, or who simply enjoy the peace of mind that comes from the care of a loving professional caregiver. (Who We Help)

Is it for everyone?

Home care is a great solution for many people and their families who crave that extra boost to an independent lifestyle. However, our services are not always enough for individuals who require more specific medical care and expertise. Regardless of what you want or need in personal care, it is important to educate yourself and talk to professionals who have your best interests at heart. At the end of the day, the best kind of care is the care that fits YOU!
